The Saving Grace

A poem about the renewal freely available for all of us in Jesus, no matter how stressful life may get.

It has been a long, dreary and tortuous journey along life’s course.
Have been hard done by, by life’s often unforgiving challenges
No respite, nowhere to rest, nowhere offers comfort
Searching for peace, searching for the saving grace

Turn east, turn west, turn north, turn south
Every road leads to a cul-de-sac.
All efforts have been an exercise in futility
Life has promised so much but delivered so little
Searching for peace, searching for the saving grace

Journey made to ‘great height’, but to no avail
Journey made to ‘great depth’, but to no avail
Journey made to ‘great length’, but to no avail
Journey made with ‘great pain’, but to no avail.
Searching for peace, searching for the saving grace

All options exhausted
Have been through the rough and the tough
Have been through the rumbles and the tumbles
Have been through the tempest and the tempos of life
Searching for peace, searching for the saving grace

Sleep has bid farewell
Strain, stress, fear and anxiety have become companions
Mind racing, mind running helter-skelter
Battered, weary, wounded, and weak
Lost in the dark wilderness of life
Searching for peace, searching for the saving grace

Then cometh the day, then cometh the moment
A dawning realisation of hope in the horizon
A great and powerful Light shines into the dark wilderness
A long and gentle Hand stretches out from the Light above
And leads the way out of the darkness

Led out of the darkness onto a most beautiful road
Dirty and tattered clothes removed and discarded in the sea of forgetfulness
Washed and cleansed
Adorned in a most beautiful and dignified robe
Anointed with the Holy oil and sprayed with priceless fragrance
Knelt before my Maker and the Saviour
Forgiven and blessed
Accorded the insignia of the redeemed child

At last, at last, the saving grace is found
The Saviour has been faithful and gracious
Heart filled with song of rejoicing and thanksgiving
Indeed “weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” [Psalm 30: 5b]
Life is renewed, peace reigns, hope now prevails
